Subashinee Venkatesh

Subashinee Venkatesh is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer of Sri Saraswathi Gana Nilayam a renowned school in Chennai, India started by Smt. K. Lalitha in 1939 . Subashinee received her initial training from the great Guru Smt. K. Lalitha at the age of 7 and continued her training under Kalaimamani, Natyakala Bhooshani, Smt. Ranganayaki Jayaraman, the first disciple of Smt. K.Lalitha. Subashinee developed deep interest in the art and performed her Arangetram (first maiden performance) in 1991 at the age of 13 with the loving encouragement and support of her parents. After her Arangetram, she  performed both solo and group performances all over India and other countries.

She started teaching the students of Sri Saraswathi Gana Nilayam at the age of 17. Under the guidance of her guru she has trained many students for their arangetrams. Subashinee was awarded the title of ‘Natya Thilakam’ by her school for her profound interest and passion towards dance. Subashinee is also well versed in the cultural folk dances of Southern India including Kummi, Kolattam, Pinnalkolattam, Karagam and Kavadi. Under the direction of her Guru, Smt.Ranganayaki Jayaraman, she has performed in multiple thematic dance dramas and programs such as Krishnanjali, Shanmugha Prabhavam,  Bhavayami Raghura mam, Shakthi Prabhavam, Navarasa Nayagi and many more.

Subashinee has also given performances on local television programs like Doordarshan and other Indian channels. She is a reputed artist with vast experience in Nritha and Nrithya. After moving to San Diego in 2001, Subashinee started her own Bharathanatyam school, the Nrithyallaya Dance Academy, where she teaches her students the Pandanallur style of Bharathanatyam. She started the school with the motive of teaching the younger generation the value and beauty of Hindu culture through this wonderful art form. She has choreographed individual pieces and short thematic dance drama presentations like Krishna Leela, which illustrate small episodes from the mythology of Lord Krishna, and Kanda puranam stories, that depict the life of Lord Mururga, Meenakshi Sundareshwarar thirukalyanam, are a few to mention.  She has successfully trained her students for both solo and group arangetrams. With the loving encouragement and exceptional choreography of their guru, Subashinee’s students continue to perform at many cultural and local community programs throughout Southern California.
